Whole Lotta Bloggin’ Goin’ On

My neighbor Neil, who set up this website as a surprise birthday prezzie for me, came over today to show me various things I can do with it. It will take me time before I am fully familiar with it.

Meanwhile, what has happened since my first blog on my 62nd birthday, March 20th? Not a lot. I missed Linda Gail Lewis’s gig in Walthamstow on Saturday 24th. The Victoria Line wasn’t running north of Finsbury Park, it would have taken me ages to get there and back again, I saw her gig in New Cross a few weeks ago, the clocks went forward after midnite (i.e. early on Sunday 25th) and I had arranged to take my mother to lunch with some friends later that day. So I gave Linda Gail a miss, watched some TV, and altered all my clocks.

Next day I went over to my mother’s and altered her clocks, and we tried out her new Taxicard, which is supposed to provide cheap taxis for elderly/disabled people. Hopeless! We waited two hours, and the taxi never arrived. Kept ringing them and they just said ‘no drivers available.’ Went by regular minicab in the end, as we couldn’t find our way by bus since we’d never been there before. Arrived 2 hours late, but had a pleasant afternoon. Ordered a Taxicard cab to pick us up at 5.30 pm, at 5.25 they rang to say ‘no cabs available’, so we had to come home by bus. Have since found out from other residents in my mother’s block, that at least as far as the London Borough of Wandsworth is concerned (they only allow short distances under the scheme, other boroughs allow you to go twice as far) the Taxicard scheme doesn’t really exist. Cabs hardly ever turn up. Well, it was worth a try.

Chas McDevitt and the Skiffle Orchestra were on at the Water Rats, Grays Inn Rd tonite but I wanted to get home. But will be at Tales From The Woods Jam Session on Friday.
